Athletics

Go Bulldogs! Vamos Bulldogs!

It is an honor to be on an athletic team representing your middle school.  Students must be dedicated, talented, and have a positive attitude.

JLMS typically participates in the following sports:

  • Softball — August-September
  • Baseball — August-September
  • Boys Soccer August-September
  • Girls Basketball — September-November
  • Boys Basketball — September-November
  • Girls Soccer — November-January
  • Volleyball — December-February
  • Coed Track — February-April

JLMS sports teams compete against other SFUSD middle schools.  All sporting events start at 3:30 pm for both home or away games otherwise noted.  Students will be released from classes with sufficient amount of time to get to the games.  Every student is responsible for making up all assignments and homework for missed classes.  Transportation to and from games is provided by district buses, parent carpools, or students taking public transportation as a team.  Student athletes are honored at the end of the school year at the JLMS Sports’ Award Banquet held in May.

Note:  The after-school program offers additional sport opportunities.  Inquire with the Jamestown program director for more information.

Requirements

Forms:  All student athletes must have on file a physical exam form completed by a medical provider and a signed parent consent form before they will be allowed to participate in a team's practices or games.  Physical exam forms are good for 12 months and may be completed over the summer.

GPA:  All student athletes must maintain a 2.0 grade point average.  Student athletes who receive a D, F or U on their report card will be on Academic Probation and must meet with the Athletic Director to create a plan for success.  Consequences may include not attending games or suspension from the team until grades are restored.  Students who do not have a 2.0 may not tryout for a sport.  For fall sports, this includes the first grading period for 7th and 8th grade athletes, which will be based on the last school year's GPA.

Transfer Students:  Students who transfer to James Lick in 7th or 8th grade either from within the district or outside the district must complete a transfer form. It takes approximately 3 weeks for district clearance.  See James Lick Athletic Director for transfer forms.
